I can’t ignore Coronavirus. It worried us when we were flying to the UK, more so for the health of our baby, but also because I’m asthmatic and when we left Sydney we weren’t sure of the true effects of the virus. I’ve lived my life travelling and am usually pretty I phased by world events, but now looking after another little human made me pause.
But on reflection, from our perspective it seems the media is causing more damage then the actual virus. And the true effect it is having on the travel industry is frighting. An industry I am due to return to next month.
For the moment, it’s your local travel agent that is giving you support, is helping get flights refunded, rerouted and rebooked. Agents are working extremely hard in very difficult times to keep calm for their customers. My amazing team are working hard to keep my customers calm whilst I spend time with my baby.
When you book travel you have choices. Online or use an Agent. And the decision you make comes with consequences.
People always ask why travel agents still exist when “you can just do it yourself.” We exist so that when things go wrong you have someone to call. Your local travel agent is currently
* Keeping customers updated in an ever evolving situation
* Interpreting T&Cs
* Making travel insurance claims on your behalf
* Negotiating with airlines, cruise lines and tour operators on your behalf
* Acting as a listening ear on the other end of the call.
Not only are they helping save you money, they are also giving you back the time you would have spent getting everything sorted.
Focusing on the future, when everything is calm again and your confidence to travel has returned, by all means use online as a research tool to decide where you want to go. But when it’s time to actually start planning and start handing over money, take the time to use a travel professional.
When things go wrong, you will be thankful that you did
